When examining a multithreaded and complicated topic, one should look at it from several perspectives. Time or budget constraints often stand in the way, but this is how we minimize the risk that we will skip one of the important elements of the puzzle. With these assumptions, we approached the description of the market of plant based meat in Poland.

The market of plant based meat (RZM) in Poland. Will it develop in the coming years? What trends influence it? When we heard this question in mid-2022, it was not only difficult to answer. We also wondered from which side to look at the issue posed? Is data from the market enough? Or maybe we also need to take into account the perspective of people who work in the industry? Because we had no doubt that consumers should be listened to. On reflection, we decided that we need to take into account all three perspectives.

Our intuitions have been confirmed by scholar research. Social researchers use mixed methods of research to explain a phenomenon from different perspectives and deepen knowledge about it. That is, exactly for the purpose that stood before us in connection with the topic of RZM. That is why we did not think any longer and in our project we combined the analysis of existing data, a survey and individual interviews with market participants. What did it give us?

Thanks to the use of three research methods, we were able to describe the situation and main trends on the RZM market in Poland. In addition, we have placed our conclusions in broad European and global contexts. We have collected data that shows that the Polish market for plant-based meat is developing dynamically and this trend is expected to continue. We have reached financial data and information about M&A and the activity of VC funds on this market. We described the market landscape and the main trends and processes that take place on it.

We touched not only on economic, but also on climate, socio-cultural, health and legislative issues. We also asked Poles whether they have already met with RZM, what are their opinions on this subject and more generally – their attitude to meat in the diet? Thanks to this, we learned how many customers RZM producers in Poland can count on. We also listened to the participants of the RZM market in Poland, who shared with us their opinions on the main factors inhibiting and accelerating the development of the market.

The result of our work is the first comprehensive and publicly available report devoted to the market of plant-based meat in Poland.
